College Phonebook (Android projects)

ABSTRACT

This report discusses the result of the work done in developing “COLLEGE PHONEBOOK” on android platform. It is a project going in the computer science department, and aims at the development of the application framework for providing information of students studying in a particular department. It displays the name of the student, phone numbers of each individual student studying in the department, and the integration of various tools developed during the execution of the project. 

                                 In the recent trend mobile-phones have become soul-mates for public. They are making use of mobile-phones for every single need. Right from calling, texting, tracking, listening to music and so on. Many new applications and technologies have come into existence these days, which people are using very effectively. Still many are looking forward for new technologies in mobile-phones as we know android is an open source.

                               Android is the latest software for mobile devices that include operating system, middleware and key applications.

The project which we are doing is about “COLLEGE PHONEBOOK”. It is about storing the information or details of each individual student studying in their respective departments, which displays the name of the student, phone number(s) of the each individual student. This will be a very useful concept as it will give the college management or the department head to know the complete information of the student studying in that department and the management of the college can even update parents of the student by reaching them through the phone or by sending them the message. This project is based on the database in which we can store and retrieve all the information regarding students and what all we require.

                              Database is a structured format. So if we store in the database, we can retrieve that particular information by giving a command directly. There is no process for installing database for mobile-phone applications. Whenever the database is needed, then only the database is created through coding. Here we have the feasibility to give input, change the data and to delete it if we are not in need of it anymore, with the following option in the first screen – COLLEGE PHONEBOOK.

                            

 By clicking the COLLEGE PHONEBOOK option, we will have another screen where we can insert the data like “DEPARTMENTS or BRANCHES”. Likewise by clicking on DEPARTMENT, we can have a screen with text views, of list of students and their complete information or details. By giving the inputs we will have another screen with all the information of the students and their details. If at all we want to change any of the information, we can make use of the option EDIT. By clicking on it we will have edit list of the information. Here we can have the modifications and click on “ok”. Similarly if we want to remove any unwanted information, we will have to click on the DELETE option in the first screen. Then we will have the same screen as the screen number four with the two text boxes with OPTIONS and BACK buttons at the bottom of the screen. Click on OPTIONS you can get options like add, edit, and delete if you want to add a new student or modify or delete the information which are unwanted or else click on BACK.

                              This concept has varied superiorities that, it can view the entire information on one click by selecting a particular student. It takes less than few minutes to have information and so by affirming its time complexity.

                            This project does have some deprivations as in if at all any changes in name and phone number of the student has changed ,then these kind of changes in the information of the students are not updated automatically we have to update them all by ourselves.

                           

EXISTING SYSTEM:

User need to add all the contacts in the phone manually. They can also update and delete however it is very tedious process. They don’t have provision to email from the contacts.

PROPOSED SYSTEM:

             In this application every one can maintain the details about all the students in their mobile only. So we can easily reach all the students of the college. It consists of student information like name, phone number. From this application we can only call and send a message to who we want to communicate.

MODULES:

The modules can be divided into different types.  Gathering the contact info & Storing Information. Branch wise division of information.

 Storing Information:

In this module we can store the particular details about students who are studying in their college. We can store the details like name, phone number.

Modify Information:

            In this module the person can edit the contacts and delete the contacts. And also can add the details about the student.

PROPOSED SOLUTION:

                         

 In this application every one can maintain the details about all the students in their mobile only. So we can easily reach all the students of the college. It consists of student information like name, phone number.
